Three Ways to Control Impulse Buying at Christmas

The shiny decorations, the pretty lights, the wonderful smells, the bustle of shoppers, the increase in commercials, and the demanding kids all combine at Christmas to raise the risk of impulse buying. Many debt services report that the number of phone calls they get for help really drops off in December, as people put aside the idea of debt and just go ahead and spend. Of course, the calls in January are another story. These agencies often see their highest traffic then, as people find themselves in debt crisis. Don’t let this happen to you. Control your impulse buying at … Continue reading

Grocery Store Meltdowns

I rarely get the luxury of going to the grocery store on my own. Needless to say I am very familiar with the infamous grocery store meltdowns. Most of us have been there at one time or another. Your three year old runs straight for one of those carts with the car on the front, you know the ones…they are impossible to maneuver around the small isles and the seatbelts are always broken, which means they can escape easily from the confines of the car. You give in to the car cart and within minutes they are begging to go … Continue reading

Consumer Reports released a survey Tuesday that lists consumers favorite grocery stores. Let us just say that Wal-Mart is not going to be too happy. The results were compiled from more than 24,000 responses across the nation. Infidelity in the Media

I was watching TV with my husband the other night and I was so upset over all the mentions of infidelity in the matter of only a few minutes. We were watching The Office and if you watch this show, you know that Jim is going on the business trip to Florida with everyone and so is the intern. Of course, you see her on the phone with someone saying that his relationship with Pam isn’t going well, even though they just had a new baby, and that she believes they will hook up on the trip. Then there is … Continue reading

Thanksgiving at Our House Part 1 – A Turkey Story

Sometimes, a family’s Thanksgiving memories are as much about the food on the table as they are about the people around it. While the staples of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner are pretty standard, each family prepares the meal in a slightly different way. Also, every person at the table has a favorite item or two. It is no secret that I love food. I also love Thanksgiving because of the meaning of the holiday, the focus on family, and, yes, the food. This year, Thanksgiving is at our house for the first time since our son was born. As I … Continue reading

Curse of the Car Cart

There I stood. I stood contemplating which cart I should choose for that day’s shopping quest. That’s where it all began. I relive this moment in my mind wishing the chance to go back and listen to better judgment and select old faithful. Why is it sometimes so easy to depart from our better judgment. For once I’d like to walk hand in hand, side by side, arm in arm with my better judgment. Sadly, I left my better judgment and walked off into Kroger alone. I selected the car cart. Yes, the car cart…the envy of toddlers and preschoolers … Continue reading
