Watch Where You Point That Finger

Well, that didn’t take long. Then again, it rarely does. It’s been less than 72 hours since the mass shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, and already cyberspace is ripe with pointed fingers, harsh accusations and shameless sanctimony. Sadly, though, that big, ugly finger of blame, which was initially aimed at the shooter, quickly turned to the parents of the victims, specifically the moms and dads who allowed their young children to attend the midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises. Thanks to pure thoughtlessness, Twitter, Facebook and thousands of other sites– where commenters and posters are able … Continue reading

What Are Your Parenting Decisions Based On?

I was recently thinking about a couple of decisions that my husband and I had to make concerning two of our children. In one situation the decision was favorable for that child but for the other it wasn’t. They were two entirely different circumstances but it got me thinking about the motivation behind the decisions we make as parents. Have you ever really thought about what motivates you to make a decision? Sometimes you are motivated by your mood at the moment. If you are in a bad mood, you might be quick to make a decision that you wouldn’t … Continue reading

Do You Need To Get Motivated?

Motivation. It is the driving force behind all that we do – or don’t do, for that matter. Sometimes we feel like we are motivated, other times, not so much. Have you ever wondered what this mysterious creature called motivation is all about? I am sure you have at least wondered where your motivation went, on at least one occasion. Today, I learned about a book that I am very eager to get my hands on. Before I tell you what it is, I must confess that I am somewhat addicted to literature of a success/inspiration/self-help/motivational nature. The book is … Continue reading

Can a Baby Save Your Marriage?

My last article began by introducing you to a story that Beth is discussing in Mental Health. In the story a wife only has sex with her husband to get pregnant. As her story turns out there is reason for the woman’s actions. My article also began talking about partners that try to conceive without the knowledge or approval of the other mate. I described some of the various scenarios that I had heard of happening. In some cases the partners trick or are not truthful to their mate about getting pregnant because they long so desperately for a baby. … Continue reading

What Gets Your Creativity Going?

We can read all the “how to” business books in the world but that will not necessarily make us better business people. The trick is to figure out what motivates us and what we respond to. When it comes to getting creative, we really need to tap into our own resources and determine what gets our creative juices flowing. We are all different. Recently, I was talking with a friend of mine who is just starting to work at building a home business and after making several suggestions, she finally said to me: “That just doesn’t work for me. I’m … Continue reading

Teach Your Dog Tricks: The Basics

Teaching your dog to do tricks can be a great bonding experience. It can also help build confidence in your dog! Dogs like having jobs to do, and they like pleasing their people. Time, patience, rewards, and reinforcement will get you through the training process. After the age of twelve weeks, your dog should be read for some basic training. Don’t believe that “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” line — dogs of any age can learn. Some breeds and some dogs are faster learners than others. Some dogs are motivated by food; others are motivated by play … Continue reading

A Little Vulnerability Can Be Good For Your Business

I have learned over the years that while toughness can be a good thing, and there is definitely a time and place in the world of business for a steely disposition, vulnerability can be good too. I’m not talking about the crying at business meetings that I wrote about a few days ago, but really more about being ourselves and showing a genuine, tender side. This is how relationships are built. Think back over your own relationships with bosses, coworkers, and colleagues–chances are the ones you came to trust the most, enjoy working with, and the ones with whom you … Continue reading

Are You Prepared For The Cost In Following Jesus?

Anything worthwhile in life never comes without cost. It may not be a cost in monetary terms or an investment in time put into a work situation or relationship. Are you prepared for the cost in following Jesus? Lets’ see what help we can find from Mark 3:20-35 about this. 1. Jesus was doing His Heavenly Father’s will, yet his family decided He ‘was out of his mind,’ verse 21. His family tried to dissuade him. They could not understand His motivation. When we are in the middle of God’s will, where He would have us, we may find there … Continue reading
