More About the Fat Flush

In my initial blog about the Fat Flush, I mentioned that there are some specific details about the Fat Flush that make reading the book absolutely necessary to a successful experience with it. Here is a quick overview of some of the specific items the Fat Flush calls for: Protein You have to consume at least 8 ounces of protein per day to include eggs, lean beef, lean chicken and whey protein. Every pound of muscle burns 70 calories every hour. Protein is what keeps the dieting person from wasting all their muscle to cannibalism. (Yes, your body will use … Continue reading

What is the Fat Flush Plan?

Somebody on the Beyonce’s Maple Syrup Diet Forum asked about the Fat Flush so I thought it might be a good topic for a blog. The Fat Flush is another Detox Diet plan that doesn’t just leave you after a few weeks of dieting. It demands the incorporation of a lifestyle change. Let’s be honest here, folks. The only way to get slim and stay there is to change your lifestyle. Yo-yo dieting every time you put on extra weight from eating carelessly just isn’t smart or safe. It is a far, far better thing to lose the extra pounds … Continue reading

Toddler Gets Stuck in Potty

My toddler nephew has fallen into the potty more than once. The tales of his recovery have not been pretty, which is why I think my preschool daughter clings to the sides of the toilet for dear life whenever she has to relieve herself. Still, all of my nephew’s falls have been accidental, which is more than I can say for 3-year-old Rebecca Rogers. Like many curious tots her age, the inquisitive little girl couldn’t resist peering into the toilet at her family’s UK home. Though, instead of using the commode to pee, the toddler decided it could be put … Continue reading

Keeping Your Kids Safe During the Holidays

So, yesterday my friend calls to ask me if our Christmas tree was up and decorated. (It is.) Then, she proceeded to tell me that after spending three hours trimming her family’s 7-foot Douglas fir the entire thing came crashing down… on her 16-month-old son. Fortunately, he didn’t suffer any major injuries, but since the fall the tree has been banished to the corner of the living room and is trapped behind a wall of child safety gates. Not that it really needs the protection given that her son is now deathly afraid of the fir. My pal’s anecdote serves … Continue reading

Let’s Review Hydration Rules

Last summer I wrote an article on hydration and it’s time to review those rules especially after the radio show tragedy that occurred when a mom died from drinking so much water during a radio contest to win a Nintendo Wii for her children. Hydration is really important for your health and your fitness goals. So as the days are getting ready to heat up and we’re going to want to do our best to promote good health through the hotter months of the year, let’s talk about hydration and what we need to do to maintain our summertime fitness. … Continue reading

Adventures in Peru

After my junior year of college I was required to spend at least four weeks on a foreign field in order to earn my degree in Missions. I had taken two semesters of Spanish and so I felt I was completely prepared to go to South America. Ha! I was 19 when I hugged my sister at the airport and took off for my adventure (I had my 20th birthday in Peru). I’m not sure I had any idea what I was getting myself into. I found a family through a mission board that lived in the village of Urubamba, … Continue reading

When Lightning Strikes… Twice

They say lightning doesn’t strike twice in the same place. I don’t believe it. Saturday our family was struck for the second time…with Juvenile Diabetes. On our recent trip to California, I noticed my eleven-year-old son, Riley, kept asking to stop for the restroom. Once. Again. And again. A bit of fear shot down my back. It all felt so familiar… it had been a road trip eight years ago when my oldest son showed his first symptoms. Often times, it takes a long drive to really see how often your child is using the bathroom. I mean, once they’re … Continue reading

Travel Memories

Travel memories We all know that traveling with children – especially very young children – can be a very challenging experience, even as it is rewarding. We’ve tried all kinds of ways so far in our nearly six years of parenting, and I’m not sure if we’ve figured it out, but there’s one basic principle that seems to help us get through: The more you plan, the better the trip will be. My in-laws participate in the annual migration of senior citizens who fly south for the winter. (Actually, since they are there for two or three months they usually … Continue reading
