Staying Motivated

My biggest problem with freelance writing is staying motivated. Some days, the words just don’t come. When that happens I want to turn off the computer and go do something else. Being a freelancer I have the flexibility to do that but I’ve found that if I let myself walk away it’s harder to get back and easier to walk away the next time. So, I have to find ways to motivate myself. At first, I used rewards, just like I did with my daughter when she was younger, but then the combination of sitting at the computer and all … Continue reading

Weight Loss: Setting Realistic Goals

Losing weight is not an easy task for most. A common mistake that people make when they attempt to lose weight is setting their goals too high instead of keeping within realistic limits. If you consider that it takes a 3500-calorie deficit in order to lose just one pound each week you will understand that expecting to lose more than a couple of pounds per week is not advisable. If you do so you will be setting yourself up for possible disappointment. In doing this you will likely lose interest in your endeavors and be subject to discouragement and defeat. … Continue reading

Weight Loss: To Weigh or Not To Weigh

To weigh or not to weigh, that is the question. I know that every expert will tell you not to weigh yourself more than once a week. They will tell you not to be as concerned with your weight, but more so to be concerned with health and fitness. Personally, I cannot do that. Don’t get me wrong. I am very concerned about my health and being fit, but I am an obsessive weight taker as well. I make myself crazy with it at times. I find that if I do not keep up with my latest statistics I will … Continue reading

Weight Loss and Divorce: How They Are Linked

Losing a significant amount of weight is great for your overall health and your self-esteem. However, it is life changing. It is even on the stress management chart as one of the causes of stress. Why? Because it is life changing in a wonderful way, it can sometimes be overwhelming to you. Think about it. There are new clothes to buy, comments from people telling you how great you look, welcomed changes in your health and approval from your doctor. All of these are welcome and you have earned it. You should be proud of yourself, but there is someone … Continue reading

Seeing Results and Staying Motivated

A friend asked me a very important question that I’d like to address: “What are some ways I can keep myself motivated when I’m not seeing results?” I’ve mentioned this many times before but I think it bears repeating over and over again. We are way too wrapped up in the small bit of information provided by our bathroom scales! Too many of us depend solely upon the opinion of the bathroom scale for our self-esteem. It is high time we cut that cord. The bathroom scale only gives us our weight. That is just one tiny piece of the … Continue reading

Stay Motivated!

Motivation is a primary element of a successful weight loss program. When your alarm clock goes off in the morning and you’re torn between an extra hour of sleep or a workout, motivation is what gets you out of bed. When the girls at the office get together during Happy Hour for drinks and fried finger foods, motivation to lose weight is what makes you say “No, thanks”. Following are a few links to some great blogs about staying motivated on your weight loss journey. For a full list of blogs on staying motivated click here. Keeping Motivated While Reaching Your Goal

If you’ve had a setback, reached a plateau, or have a craving, it’s okay. It’s normal; most of us who have struggled with weight loss have had the same issues. Don’t get stuck on the negative. You are your biggest cheerleader because you have something to gain. Some of us want better health, a better self-image, or to look fabulous for some event. Whatever the reason you’ve chosen to lose, keep that image with you at all times. You want that image to keep you on the right track, but don’t stress or beat yourself up, when things are not … Continue reading

Regrouping and Getting Back on Track

Recently I made the commitment to finally take real steps to lose weight and get back into shape. For the first time in a few years I looked with hope at the prospect of taking this journey seriously. I was excited. I had a plan. I had the tools. I had the motivation. I even had the support of friends and family. I knew it was do or die as I could no longer deny that I was an overweight woman. Even typing that I am an overweight woman makes me cringe but I decided now was my time. I … Continue reading

Getting Past Discouragement

Last week I expressed some discouragement over the lack of change I was seeing in my body, despite eating healthier and exercising for two months now. I pleaded with others to “Develop a Healthier Lifestyle Earlier in Life” because I am seeing the affects of waiting until you are older. Because I was feeling discouraged, I ended up caving in this past weekend to food that I should not have. I think deep down inside I was thinking, “What’s the use? I might as well eat what I want.” Then my treadmill got moved over the weekend to a spot … Continue reading
