Weight a Minute! The Hair of the Dog

When someone has a hangover and drinks just a little more whiskey to help them get over it, they’ll sometimes refer to that as “having some of the hair of the dog.” The full expression is “the hair of the dog that bit me,” hearkening back to days when you’d take a hair from your enemy and create a potion to destroy them. Essentially, what they’re doing is slowing the cleanse enough so they can handle it. Well, as you’ll recall from last week’s post (you did read last week’s post, didn’t you? Well, go do it!) I’ve gone off … Continue reading

Weight a Minute! Dress for Success at the Gym

I have no weight gain or loss to report to you. I’ve decided not to get on the scale until after boutique season is over for me – my gain after the last boutique was disheartening and I’ve decided to simply do the best I can and not worry too much about it until the beginning of December. Therefore, I have nothing to say. What I’d like to share instead are some things I’ve found to be very true about working out. The way you dress makes all the difference. 1. Wear thick enough socks. I have several pairs of … Continue reading

Weight a Minute! The Benefits of Exercise

Well, my weight is still frozen at 258.0. Not an ounce beyond that has been lost by me. However, I’m pleased that I’m not gaining, and I’m also pleased that I’m creating within myself some healthy habits that will benefit me in the long run, even if the weight isn’t falling off as fast as I would like. There are many benefits to exercise that go beyond the weight loss. To cheer myself up and to continue to propel myself forward, I thought I’d share some of them today. 1. When I exercise, it boosts my self-esteem. I feel good … Continue reading

Weight a Minute: Who Are You and What Did You Do with Tristi?

I’ve been telling everyone I don’t know what’s happened to me. I’m actually craving healthy food. I actually look forward to going to the gym. I’m proud of myself when I sweat. I don’t know where the old me went, but I’m in no hurry to get her back! My husband is a health fanatic and to be honest, sometimes I rebel against his goodness. You know how it is – someone is sitting there eating a carrot, and it makes you want a cupcake all the more! He told me on more than one occasion that if I would … Continue reading

Weight a Minute! – The Fruit Diet

I have recovered from the Great Potato Salad Debacle of 2007 and am now at 260.2 pounds. It was so not worth eating the potato salad to wander around in 264+ land for two weeks, and I have learned my lesson. I’ve also been off chocolate for over four weeks now. Yeah me! Now, a little while ago I mentioned a fruit diet that gave me a boost in the right direction. I’d like to share a little more of that with you today. I found it in Woman’s World magazine, the July 24th, 2007 edition, page 18. The magazine … Continue reading

Weight a Minute! The Unfortunate Potato Salad Incident

My mom makes to-die-for potato salad. She starts with potatoes that have been baked in foil and then diced, adds chopped radishes, green onions, olives and sweet pickles, and then stirs in a sauce of mayonnaise, mustard, and reserved sweet pickle juice. The crowning touch – bacon bits. This salad has been made for every special occasion during my whole lifetime, but because it’s labor intensive, it’s only made maybe twice a year, if that. Two weeks ago, I’d had a great week. I was making wise food choices, I’d been exercising, I’d taken off another pound (and got to … Continue reading
