Weight a Minute! Tristi Takes the Plunge

I haven’t been posting in Weight Loss for the last several weeks, and there’s a reason for that. I haven’t felt as though I had anything of use to say. The last two months have been very emotionally stressful for me, and I haven’t done so well in the whole weight loss area. I’m still chocolate free – in fact, I’m five months, one week and one day chocolate free, and if that’s not totally impressive, then I don’t know what is. There’s a problem, though. Yes, I’m very proud of myself for staying off of chocolate for so long. … Continue reading

Weight a Minute! Dress for Success at the Gym

I have no weight gain or loss to report to you. I’ve decided not to get on the scale until after boutique season is over for me – my gain after the last boutique was disheartening and I’ve decided to simply do the best I can and not worry too much about it until the beginning of December. Therefore, I have nothing to say. What I’d like to share instead are some things I’ve found to be very true about working out. The way you dress makes all the difference. 1. Wear thick enough socks. I have several pairs of … Continue reading

Weight a Minute! – Making Friends with Food

I’m now weighing in at 258.0. This is fabulous – I’ve been trying for a long time to get below 260.0, and I’m so glad that I’ve finally done it. My ticker now says that I have 98 pounds to go, as opposed to 100 and above, and I’m delighted. I’ve been going to the gym and riding the recumbent bike all week long, and I’m starting to see a little definition here and there, and also some overall smaller-ness taking place. However, I have been a little sad because I’ve been at 258.0 all week long. I’d hoped to … Continue reading

Weight a Minute! – An Important Landmark

I’ve been trying to blast through 260.0 on my scale for a long time. Several months ago I did manage to get a 257.8, but it was done in an unhealthy way (starvation, basically) and wasn’t maintainable. Well, the last time I weighed in, I pulled out a 258.0. Me! That’s right – I managed to get down to 258.0. I did a happy dance all over the bathroom. Truth be told, though, I haven’t weight in since, and it’s been about four days. Part of me is worried that it was a fluke and the next time I get … Continue reading

Weight a Minute! – The Fruit Diet

I have recovered from the Great Potato Salad Debacle of 2007 and am now at 260.2 pounds. It was so not worth eating the potato salad to wander around in 264+ land for two weeks, and I have learned my lesson. I’ve also been off chocolate for over four weeks now. Yeah me! Now, a little while ago I mentioned a fruit diet that gave me a boost in the right direction. I’d like to share a little more of that with you today. I found it in Woman’s World magazine, the July 24th, 2007 edition, page 18. The magazine … Continue reading

Weight a Minute!: Accentuate the Positive

You know what – I may be an overweight woman, but I’m pretty cute, if I do say so myself. There are days when my negative body image takes control, but when I’m thinking realistically and impartially, I must say, I’m a looker. I have beautiful eyes, my hair has some really gorgeous golden highlights in it (which are natural) and I have naturally curly hair too. Notice I’m not telling you that I’m a really nice person, or that I have a sweet spirit – those things are true, of course, but who wants to hear that? I’m talking … Continue reading

What Not to Wear – Video Podcast

Tristi’s review of What Not to Wear had me so intrigued that I had to watch it. I watched a few shows and really enjoyed seeing these women gain confidence, find clothes for their age and style, and become comfortable in their own bodies. Browsing through podcasts the other day I was thrilled to discover that stylists Stacy London and Clinton Kelly have sixteen short video podcasts that can be viewed online or downloaded to cell phones and Ipods. In these short one to three minute video podcasts, Stacy and Clinton cover things like how to wear those big shirts … Continue reading

MissBimbo.com

There are scads of websites aimed at children designed to increase their I.Q, sharpen their reflexes, teach the capitals of the states, improve their math skills, and teach basic trivia. These sites work hand in hand with school curriculums to help make your child’s Internet experiences fun as well as educational. Missbimbo.com is not one of them. In a world where women now have more freedom than ever before, where we can now run corporations as well as raise families and garner the respect of both colleagues and critics, why is it that my pre-teen daughter can now go online … Continue reading

What Not to Wear

“What Not to Wear” is one of my favorite television shows. I’m not sure what it is I like so much – maybe the idea of having a ton of money to spend on clothes, or the fun banter between the hosts. Whatever it is, I try hard not to miss the new episodes that air every Friday night on TLC. Older episodes air every afternoon, but I tend to miss those. The show is hosted by Clinton Kelly and Stacy London, two stylists from New York. Each week, they surprise a fashion victim that has been nominated by loving, … Continue reading
