Walking Into Fall With Both Eyes Open

My favorite time of the year is fast approaching. There is something about fall that is so special to me. I am not sure if it is the crisp, autumn air, the changing colors of the leaves, the start of shorter days when it seems like you can kick back and take it easier with the busyness of summer behind you.

One thing is certain though, exercising in the fall is much easier to do outdoors. There is no heat or humidity to slow you down. You do not sweat nearly as much as you did in the summer months. It seems quieter outside with the kids inside getting ready for the next day. There is something very peaceful about fall, it seems.

Fall is the perfect time to walk outdoors, ride your bike or even pick up a new exercise class down at your local community center.

If you decide that walking is your thing, enjoy the weather while you can. While walking, think about things and make decisions. On the other hand, you could make this a non-thinking walk and take notice of the beauty of nature around you. One of the great things about walking outdoors besides burning calories and doing your body good is the tranquility of your surroundings. It is a good time to clear your head and get things in your mind in order.

If you do walk outside during this time of the year you will most likely sleep like a log at night. The fall air seems to make me sleepier than the air at any other time of the year. I think that this might be in part to the total relaxation of the falling temperatures. Never much of a person who enjoyed the heat of the summer, fall was always a reflective time for me.

Whatever exercise you choose to do in the fall season, enjoy it while it lasts. If you live in the Northeast, it will not be long before winter makes its appearance.
