Great Blog for Workouts and Motivation

Have you heard of Peanut Butter Fingers? No, it isn’t a new treat on the market it is a blog about fitness. I recently became aware of this blog while looking for workout routines I could effectively do in my home. Most home workouts are on DVD’s or Netflix. After a while they get boring and you lack the motivation to pop in the DVD or switch over to Netflix. I wanted to find something with teeth and something to fight the boredom. On my search I found a few tips here and there but it was not until looking … Continue reading

Fun Smoothies for Kids

Recently, I introduced you to a new brand of chocolate milk called TruMoo. TruMoo Chocolate milk is not a chocolate drink. It is made from real milk but void of high fructose corn syrup and growth hormones. The milk is not organic yet it does eliminate two dangerous elements. Growth hormones and high fructose corn syrup have no place on a child’s menu. If your children love chocolate milk as much as mine and you are looking for a less expensive yet safe option then TruMood may be for you. I know my children love it. They ask for chocolate … Continue reading

Get Two Smoothies For Five Bucks At Jamba Juice

Is there a Jamba Juice in your neighborhood? It seems like there is one in every mall, or downtown shopping area. If so, then you can take advantage of their current deal. For a limited time, you can get two “Sweetheart Smoothies” for just $5.00. You will need to have the coupon in order to take advantage of this offer. Drink a High Protein Fruit Smoothie to Fight Morning Sickness

It can be hard to stomach breakfast when you are pregnant if you are suffering from morning sickness. The last thing you feel like doing is eating. Ironically, eating is the best thing for your morning sickness, provided you eat the right types of food. It used to be that experts always suggested saltine crackers or something similar, and some still do, but recently it has been found that foods high in protein tend to have a bigger impact on morning sickness than foods high in carbohydrates. Many women have good luck with eating fruit as well, so an easy … Continue reading

Fabulous Smoothies Your Preschooler Will Drink

I have the most stubborn breakfast-eater on the face of the planet. Oh, I am sure that there are some children who might almost measure up, but my daughter will happily go without food until noon if I let her. I try not to let her. In fact, I have been known to beg, cajole, plead, threaten, and use all sorts of untoward parenting behaviors just to get her to eat a few bites. I believe that she is truly not all that hungry in the morning, but unfortunately she has blood sugar crashes if she doesn’t eat until later … Continue reading

Cloudy With a Chance of Stinging Nettles and Smoothies

Last weekend, we went out to pick stinging nettles. This was a fun excursion. Stinging nettles grow wild around our city, although I’ve never had the opportunity to pick them before. They grow near sunny ditches, and we have a lack of both sun and ditches in our particular neighborhood. When we got home, I steamed the nettles and we ate them for dinner. They were a lovely cross between earthy flavor and leafy green. They are also supposed to be very nutritious. Unfortunately, my daughter took one bite and determined that they were icky. Oh well, at least she … Continue reading

The Sin is in the Smoothie

“I’ve started eating much less and have smoothies for snacks throughout the day. I use milk, strawberries, blueberries, walnuts, whey, yogurt, pomegranate juice, and cocoa powder. Even though I’m eating less I can’t seem to lose any weight. Is my metabolism too slow?” There is nothing wrong with your metabolism. You’re simply consuming too many calories! Smoothies can be great for dieters but they can also be their downfall. Just because it is in a liquid form doesn’t mean it is low in calories. Milk: Are you using fat free, skim milk, 1%, 2% or whole milk? Milk still has … Continue reading

Choosing Strawberries

Yummy, yummy strawberries. Who can resist the plump sweetness of a great strawberry. There is nothing like this great fruit when it is ripe and perfect. Enjoy them with chocolate, with cream, or in one of the many great recipes here in the Food Blog. But, one of the things about strawberries is that when they go wrong, they go very wrong. From tough bitter berries to rotten moldy berries, you could be in for a nasty surprise if you aren’t careful. And strawberries have some special concerns when it comes to choosing where and how the strawberries are grown. … Continue reading

Losing Weight Means Finding Out What Works For You

Have you heard the weight loss story of Roger Troy Wilson, the author of the book Let’s Do Lunch? He went from 425 pounds and a 60 inch waist to 195 pounds and a 36 inch waist after devising his own weight loss plan. He claims that he developed his weight loss regimen through trial and error.
