Celebrity Vegans – Part 3

And my final installment of celebrity vegans. Here’s a few actors left over from the last blog plus a hodgepodge of others: Casey Affleck – Ben Affleck’s younger brother is also an animal rights activist who decided to go vegan. Woody Harrelson – How could anyone as green as Harrelson not be a vegan? He committed to the diet at the fairly young age of 24. He credits it with providing him with more energy and glowing skin. Ted Danson – Harrelson’s co-star on “Cheers,” Danson, an environmentalist, just recently became a vegan in an attempt to naturally lower his … Continue reading

Enter the Best Buy – Biggest Loser Sweepstakes

It appears that Best Buy has connected with the Biggest Loser television program in order to create a somewhat confusing sweepstakes. If I understand correctly, the winners will get some of the tools that contestants use on the Biggest Loser Ranch, (without actually visiting the ranch). The full name of this sweepstakes is “The Biggest Loser Meal Plan & Slimcoach Sweepstakes”. It isn’t being held through the Biggest Loser television program itself. Instead, Best Buy, and their reward zone, appear to be hosting it. What does Best Buy have to do with weight loss? I’ve no idea. The only connection … Continue reading

October 20th is Spirit Day

Not long ago, I blogged about It Gets Better, an organization to help fight against bullying of LGBT teens and young adults. Many LGBT teens and young adults have committed suicide recently after bullying and abuse by peers. To help further raise awareness, October 20th has been declared Spirit Day by Canadian teenager Brittany McMillan. Last year was the first observance, but since then, many organizations such as the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) and many celebrities are donning purple to show their support. The color and name was derived from the rainbow flag. In the flag, the … Continue reading

Hottest Baby Names of 2010

Not long ago, I blogged about the most popular boy and girl names of the past 100 years, based on social security records. Today, BabyNameWizard.com released the hottest baby names of 2010. BabyNameWizard tracks names search on the Internet. It issued a report of the fastest rising 2020 baby names so far. What peaked at #1 for the girls? The name Tenley, which makes me believe that some pregnant women were watching “The Bachelor” last season (Tenley Molzahn finished in second place). The second fastest rising name for girls was Harper. Have the moms been watching “Biggest Loser,” which features … Continue reading

Confessions of a Late Night Muncher

When do you cave into your food cravings? Do you race for snacks when you walk in the door, when you are bored or stressed? I am a late-night muncher. I remember in college, after a night out, I would always stop for pizza or grab a bag of chips at the store on the way home. Unfortunately, years later, little has changed, except now I have a few kids and fewer cocktails. I could easily consume two thirds of my calories after everyone else is in bed. I wish there was a late night munchers anonymous. We could talk … Continue reading

Talking to Bob Harper: Trainer from “The Biggest Loser” Part 3

In this final segment of my conference call with Bob Harper, trainer from NBC’s “The Biggest Loser,” we are going to talk about the final component to a healthy lifestyle—-exercise. One of the callers asked Bob how a person can get excited about working out. He pointed out that blogs, such as this one, help motivate people. Bob said that exercise can definitely get monotonous and mundane so we have to find something that will be motivating for us. Some of his suggestions included: Accountability partners (friends), watching “The Biggest Loser,” listening to our Ipods, and reading health books and … Continue reading

Talking to Bob Harper: Trainer From “The Biggest Loser” Part 2

In my last blog I talked about the conference call I participated in with Bob Harper, trainer from the hit TV show “The Biggest Loser.” Bob is working in conjunction with Extra gum for the 3PM Snackdown Challenge. The idea behind this challenge is to put down the snack and instead, pick up a pack of Extra sugar-free gum. Replacing that craving for a sweet treat with a piece of five calorie sugar-free gum is a much healthier alternative. When you go to the website you can enter to win a free training session with Bob Harper. The winner score … Continue reading

Talking to Bob Harper: Trainer From “The Biggest Loser” Part 1

This past Wednesday I had the privilege of participating in a conference call with Bob Harper, trainer for NBC’s hit reality weight loss show, “The Biggest Loser.” Bob is working in conjunction with Extra Gum for a challenge called the 3PM Snackdown. During the conference call he not only shared some of his personal stories but he also offered great tips and advice on eating healthy and staying fit. It was a really enjoyable experience to hear from one of the trainers who has helped to make an incredible difference in the lives of so many participants. It’s hard to … Continue reading
