Ready to Take Weight Loss Seriously

I’ve been talking about shedding my extra weight for months now. Losing my pregnancy weight was easy, but the fifteen pounds I gained before pregnancy have stuck. If I’m going to be honest with myself, however, I haven’t been trying very hard. I’m not a big fan of exercise and I love all things sweet. It’s hard for me to limit myself when enjoying dessert, and I might even enjoy it more than once in a day. My BMI is sitting at the top of the normal weight category, just five pounds away from “overweight.” I do not want to … Continue reading

Tips for Journaling Your Way to Weight Loss

Many people seriously lack motivation to lose the weight they need. They are unable to set realistic goals or they just cannot see their own bad habits long enough to break them. Journaling your weight loss journey really helps you to see where you’ve been and where you’re going. Why Journaling? There are several reasons to keep a chronicle of your weight loss endeavors. First of all, it helps you to realistically see where you’re at. Writing down your weight means you have to acknowledge it. Keeping track of what you eat means that you have to see on paper … Continue reading

How many bags of flour do you need to lose?

Before I knew it, I gained a great bit of weight. I remember being discouraged at the prospect of losing fifteen pounds. After being underweight, then working out and getting into shape, it was a hard adjustment to have a baby and find myself fifteen pounds overweight. At time went on and I worked out less consistently and had three more kids, I continued to gain weight. A variety of factors played into my weight gain such as not watching what I eat, not working out, and my metabolism slowing down due to age and having babies. So, here I … Continue reading

I’m Bored Therefore I Eat

So there you are sitting at your desk with nothing to do but tap your pencil in a rhythmic motion to the annoyance of your co-worker in the next cubicle. While you were just getting the hang of tapping out the American anthem, you decide that vending machine is calling your name. Hmmm…what sounds good in this moment of sheer boredom? You can choose from a candy bar, chips, soda, or Little Debbies. Well, this is already working as the choosing process is already giving you something to do for the moment. As you slip your quarters in the machine … Continue reading

Preparing for the Warmer Months

The challenge to lose some weight is stepping up as the warmer months are now just around the corner. During the winter it was about getting a head start. Now that we are in the month of March, the pressure to be “ready” is mounting. All I keep thinking about is putting away the sweaters and jackets and breaking out the Capri’s or shorts. Will I be ready? Am I ready to show more skin? It was so much easier over the winter months to cover parts of my body. Now I have to get ready for warmer months. I … Continue reading

Nine Months On, Nine Months Off

We’re constantly bombarded with the images of new celebrity mothers who, though they porked out and really put on pounds during their pregnancy, seem to have lost every ounce of baby weight within their first postpartum month. Then, when asked their weight loss secrets, they demur “Oh, I’m just so busy with the baby”. Well, I have one thing to say to that: SHENNANIGANS! You can’t gain 70 pounds, have a baby and then drop the remaining 50 pounds in a month without doing something pretty special. A few are honest about their battles with baby weight and I find … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Welcome Back from the Weekend

Welcome back to my personal fitness journal and I hope you had a great weekend. One of my primary goals is to demonstrate how you can incorporate fitness into your every day lifestyle whether you have kids, you work out of your house or you work in an office. You can do it whether you are male or female, married or single – all you need is the will to find the way that works for you. I’ve discovered over the last couple of years that while working with a personal trainer was a powerful motivator for me, I had … Continue reading

Hug your Local Neurologist!

Yesterday I had a meeting with my neurologist. I really like this guy because he’s the first consultant I’ve seen in over 3 years of unexplained/undiagnosed illness who really seems as if he cares about me, the person. Not long before Christmas he did an EEG and as a result of that diagnosed me as epileptic. I’m not sure the diagnosis is correct but I bow to his better judgment and am trying the treatment plan to see if it helps. This aside, he’s obviously concerned about my weight. The last time we met we talked about the fact that … Continue reading

Emergen-C

This is a fantastic product! I tried it on a whim after seeing it available at my local Wal Mart. My husband and I tried a powdered multi-vitamin once that was terrific but it cost about a dollar a serving which just didn’t make good financial sense to us. Emergen-C, on the other hand, makes great financial sense at about 25 cents a serving! The one thing many people who are trying to lose weight lack is energy. I couldn’t believe the amount of energy packed into one little serving of the Super Orange Energy Booster! It not only has … Continue reading

Teachable Moments in Protective Play.

Protective play is about finding teachable moments, during play, to introduce the five BITSS elements of protective behaviors. BITSS play can help you to protect your child by introducing talk about Body Ownership, Intuition, Touch, Say No and Support Networks before anything horrible happens to your child. I run Protective Play parties to teach parents how easy it is to do. I take a stock of everyday toys with me and we sit and play as if kids would. During the play I coach in how find and grab that teachable moment and mentor the participants through play tutoring. It … Continue reading
