No Carve Pumpkins for the Whole Family

With Halloween just around the corner the kids are itching to get started on their pumpkins! But if you are anything like me, the whole idea of handing those little pumpkin carving tools over to my four year old is a little frightening. Last year Mommy had to do the whole thing for him. Needless to say, neither one of us had much fun with it until it was finished and on the porch. This year I’m thinking we might try a new approach. No carve pumpkins are an easy solution to this little dilemma, and certainly just as fun! … Continue reading

Decorating Pumpkins With Your Baby or Toddler

Halloween is coming! Yes, I know, it’s miles away as I post this, and you’re still thinking about fun summer activities…but it’s sneaking up on us. I’m already planning a trip to the pumpkin patch with great anticipation. Pumpkin-carving is such a fun activity to do with a young family. How can you get your baby or toddler involved? Pumpkins can be carved, but they can also be decorated. What’s the difference? Well, carving involves knives. Now, I love a well-carved pumpkin, but I am the first to admit that I am not artistically talented. And leaving me with knife … Continue reading

End of the Month Check In

It’s time to close out October and reflect if our time spent has put us closer to our weight loss goals. So how are you doing? Have you lost weight? Have you decided to get a new attitude? Have you taken the time to laugh at yourself and brush off setbacks and keep trekking? This month we have tried to find fun and humor in weight loss and body image. I do hope a laugh, if in fact it was funny, made your day brighter. We also covered plenty of recipes for that fall beauty the pumpkin. I hope the … Continue reading

The Pumpkin Carve

After I finished the first part of my qualifying examinations for my doctoral degree my family and I found our way to a local apple tree farm. We took a nice drive, dressed a little more warmly than usual, and took our time looking high and low in the various trees for fresh apples free of pesticides and wormholes. We had such a wonderful time when we went the first time that we planned to do it again. With Halloween just around the corner we went to pick up a pumpkin. I realized, once we got home, how interesting new … Continue reading

How Do You Feel About Halloween?

How do you feel, as a parent, about Halloween? I know some people oppose the holiday for religious reasons, but many churches offer an alternative celebration on Halloween night. For me, Halloween is a chance for my kids to dress up, to enjoy using their imaginations to “become” someone different for a few hours. It’s make-believe at its finest. This year my son is a Power Ranger (he’s 6) and my daughter is a cheerleader (she’s 2). It was the end of the “cute” costume phase with my son—something I admit saddens me. No longer will he wear a fluffy … Continue reading

Week of October 9th in Review

I have had a crazy week this week. I celebrated my 10-year anniversary and my husband’s birthday. I had what seemed like a million other things to do. As a result I didn’t get many blogs written this week. But I did want to take a few minutes to review what has been written for my own benefit and for yours. Monday Myra shared this tidbit. I Have The Pumpkin, Now What?

Halloween is fast approaching and pumpkin patches are sprouting everywhere. Just yesterday Teresa, my fellow parenting blogger, wrote about her family’s annual trek to a pumpkin patch. Tyler and I also visited a pumpkin patch yesterday but this was our first time. I actually stumbled upon it on my way to the library. We ended up having a great time and I have some great pictures (I never leave home without my digital camera). Tyler is very excited about carving the pumpkin and so am I. I’ve never actually carved a pumpkin before so this is going to be a … Continue reading
