Losing the Pregnancy Weight Part I

Losing the baby weight can be and often is a rather difficult challenge. With my first pregnancy, I did not have the long established habit of regular exercise; I was well within the normal and healthy body mass index but I had very little muscle tone; I was not in shape. I began exercising with my first pregnancy (talk about a real motivating reason to exercise). Even though I exercised regularly throughout my first pregnancy, my workouts were really tame. The biggest challenge came after my son was born. I had gained about twenty pounds more than I had wanted … Continue reading

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of Weight Loss

This has been an interesting week for me with a few different ups and downs. Feel free to play some mood music from your favorite western movie, in the background as you read this. “Doodeedeedoo Wah, wah wah.” The Good I had a particularly great exercise day on Saturday. With no where pressing that we needed to be, I was able to walk and run for a longer time period, proving to myself that I could do it. I was also able to relax and not be so stressed about getting back on time in the morning to shuffle my … Continue reading

Some Random Weight Loss Thoughts

This week, it seems that my head is just filled with all sorts of thoughts competing for attention. Those long walks/runs in the morning give me a little time with my thoughts as well as my body, and I think somewhere in there, some of my brain got turned on along with my metabolism. I was reading a blurb in Shape Magazine the other day that had some interesting news. According to a recent study, it will require more effort to lose weight if you miss exercising for a few days. In other words, if you were able to lose … Continue reading

Overcoming Weight Loss Obstacles

The God Factor I don’t know if your are a spiritual person, but as I was sitting in church on Sunday, I absorbed the message put forth by the pastor, “Those doing God’s work will be faced with obstacles. It is guaranteed.” Now, while I am not implying that my personal weight loss is the Lord’s work, although of course I look to Him for direction in all of my life (and He is great at helping one overcome obstacles), the message did get me to start thinking about recent obstacles that I have faced so far. Week Four I’ve … Continue reading

Talking to Bob Harper: Trainer from “The Biggest Loser” Part 3

In this final segment of my conference call with Bob Harper, trainer from NBC’s “The Biggest Loser,” we are going to talk about the final component to a healthy lifestyle—-exercise. One of the callers asked Bob how a person can get excited about working out. He pointed out that blogs, such as this one, help motivate people. Bob said that exercise can definitely get monotonous and mundane so we have to find something that will be motivating for us. Some of his suggestions included: Accountability partners (friends), watching “The Biggest Loser,” listening to our Ipods, and reading health books and … Continue reading

I Deserve to Say “No!”

First, let me start off by saying that I had a really great workout on Saturday. I was able to run farther than I ever had before without stopping due to lack of oxygen, muscle strength or energy. I felt like I could have kept going all day. Of course, having learned my lesson well from my recent bout with a torn and inflamed meniscus in my knee, I made sure not to push it too much. On Sunday my husband and I had a church function that started very early and lasted for five hours. I was nervous about … Continue reading

Major Accomplishments

One great thing about all of this exercising and cutting back on especially sugar is the fact that I seem to have more energy. My stamina is improving of course, but also my energy levels during the day. But first, I have to tell you about a major accomplishment I had this week. Lately, we have had more than our fair share of rain. It has been raining so hard and for so long, that the roads and our driveway looked like a hurricane hit them, a challenge for walking, even if it weren’t raining. So, I have been focuses … Continue reading

Listening to the Pillsbury Dough Boy

Being on intimate terms with my body, you think I would listen to it more often. It is just amazing how many of us go through life living almost outside of ourselves. Sure, we propel along through the day in our bodies, but most of the time, we are somewhere else. This is, or was, me. See if you can relate. I make sure to prepare healthy lunches for my kids, making sure that they include enough calcium, protein, complex carbohydrates (including those fruits and vegetables). I want to take care of their bodies so they can be strong and … Continue reading

Not So Extreme Home Makeover

If you have been following my blogs, you might be aware that I’m a big fan of decluttering and organizing while still maintaining a house that never seems to be far from clutter. Now to my defense (watch out, rationalizing here), I have three young children, a work at home career, a hardworking husband in the middle of a huge work project and a healthy sense of procrastination. But I still hate clutter and the feeling that there is no space. So why is it that in the past few weeks we have added three very large items to our … Continue reading
