Optimal Metabolismby Angel Lynn Diamond | More from this Blogger 06 Feb 2009 05:12 PM To help you lose weight you need to rev up your metabolism and give it that extra heave-ho. You have tried to consume fewer calories and exercise more and those are both great things to do and highly essential in the weight loss battle, but you feel like you are missing the mark somehow. As you get older your metabolism slows down, especially around the mid to late 30s mark. Losing weight becomes tougher. To help you in the weight loss adventure there are some great metabolism boosters to keep in mind that will help you to get those pounds off just a little bit easier. Do not skip meals. Eating breakfast is probably one of the smartest things that you can do to fuel your body for the day's journey. Start your day with a good size breakfast, eat less at lunchtime, and eat very meagerly at dinnertime. Snacking after 7 p.m. could sabotage your dieting plans. Try not to do it. If you are not a big breakfast eater then an alternative plan would be to eat several small, but frequent meals a day. This also works well and provides a consistent stream of energy. Make sure that you do not go under 1000 calories a day for either of these plans, as this will have a reverse effect on your body and cause your body to demand fewer and fewer calories to maintain your weight. Aerobic exercise will increase your metabolism and cause your body to burn calories. If possible, a morning exercise session is optimal and will help you throughout the day in maintaining maximum calorie-burning power. Weight training a few times a week is also very helpful. It will help to build up your muscle, which will in turn help to burn up calories since muscle burns more calories then fat does. Take a supplemental multivitamin daily. This will help to compensate for any vitamins that you are missing through dieting efforts. Vitamin B-12 is particularly important in assuring you the energy that you need to function each day. Water is necessary. For me it is a lot of water to drink, but try and drink the recommended eight glasses a day. It will help tremendously in your weight loss. Sleep. Most of us do not sleep enough hours in the day. For some of us this is almost impossible because of our busy schedules. Try and get the recommended eight hours of sleep each night or at least as close to it as possible. Studies have shown that thinner people tend to sleep more hours in a 24-hour period than heavy people do. Try these metabolism suggestions to help you maximize your weight loss efforts. In doing so you will achieve a healthier, slimmer life. Angel Lynn writes in weight loss, single parenting, and health.
