More Questions to Ask When Choosing a Weight Loss Plan

Yesterday we talked about the two first steps you need to take when choosing a weight loss plan. The first is to talk with your doctor about what type of plan is right for you. Statistics show that many people skip this step. My theory is that we really don't want to hear what our doctors have to say which will almost always be: eat less, move more. In any case, it is important that you do it. The second step, or first question rather to ask about the weight loss program you're considering is whether or not they follow the Voluntary Guidelines for Weight Loss Providers and Services. (Read here for more information.) Today we'll look at a few more questions to consider when choosing a weight loss plan.

What's involved in following the program?

The most successful dieting programs will encourage participants to follow the Dietary Guidelines for Americans which includes plenty of servings of fresh fruits and vegetables. Also, good weight loss programs will encourage exercise as a regular part of the program. Finally, you should look for a program that encourages weight loss at a rate of no more than 2 pounds a week.

How is the staff qualified?

If the program you are considering includes staff support find out what their qualifications are. Unfortunately, some weight loss clinics 'train' their staff in how to sell their own products. Also, find out what type of support you'll receive from staff. Will you get one on one counseling, or group support? How often will you be expected to meet with staff? Will counseling include nutritional counseling or just general weight loss support?

How much does it cost?

Ask for an itemized price list and for all fees. Ask if you have to buy the food to be successful in the diet. Get as specific as possible with all the fees. Programs that have a lot of 'hidden' fees are not worth it.
