Looking for My Waist... Seriouslyby Andrea Hermitt | More from this Blogger 22 Jan 2007 12:47 PM I feel like I have been playing at losing weight. I'm on board one day. I'm weak the next. The next day, I am good again. It is time to get serious. Excuses like I made last week, have to be a thing of the past. Procrastination is not my friend. A bad mood is not a good reason to overdose on chocolate. Having a good cook around is not a good reason to eat everything they make. If I am going to find my missing waist, I am going to have to be strong... very strong! Exercise... well, that's great to talk about, and sometimes fun to do... but I feel like I am all talk and no action. I have not done what I said I would. I have to force myself on my feet this week; no excuses! Here are my stats this week (inches) 247 lbs bust 47, waist 43.5, hips 51, Thighs 44.5, single arm 14.75 There were no changes from last week, I am not surprised, considering the amount of raisin bread I consumed! Here are my original stats: Dec 20, 2006: 250 lbs bust: 50, waist: 46, hips: 53, Thighs: 47, single arm: 15 Question: This week I read in Woman's World magazine that you could "Activate Your Skinny Gene" by dieting every other day. According to their article, you should eat normally one day, and then the next day eat half as many calories as it would to take to maintain your current weight. This is the only diet I have ever read about where the participants have lost 100 and more pounds without the "results not typical" disclaimer. Meanwhile an article in First Magazine says that by just eliminating all transfats from their diet, participants have automatically dropped excess weight. Has anyone ever heard of these diets before, or even tried it. How has this worked for you? Learn more about Andrea Hermitt ![]() Andrea Hermitt is a native New Yorker currently residing in GA. Dropping the transfats sounds good however, because it sounds less like a controlling diet and more like a lifestyle change. Would you mind sharing with us what kind of food you keep around the house? Also, do you have an exercise routine? The only ways that I have ever lost weight are by cutting down on portions, drinking more herbal tea and water, and especially -- by increasing exercise. Andrea Hermitt (5522) 22 Jan 2007 04:35 PMClarrissa, I am afraid I am going to have to fork over some money to get myself to exercise regularly. I could walk my dogs every day, but I don't. I could use the exercise equipment in my basement, but I don't. I could practice my dance steps daily, but just days after deciding to do that, I have not. When I do exercise, I do it well. I walk far. I move briskly. I work up a sweat. But I only do it once or twice a week. When I paid a gym membership and took TaeKwondo, I went almost everyday. That's because I am cheap and like to get value for my money. Food around the house.... The freezer is stocked with healthy meats, that I am too lazy to thaw. The pantry has brown rice and whole wheat pasta. Cookies for the kids usually have to be baked before eating. There is a shelf full of different types of breakfast cereals like raisin bran and special K. There are cans of soup. And there is fruit and salad. My problem is I eat out too often and most of the fresh food in my house goes in the garbage can from spoilage Clarissa Adkins (231) 22 Jan 2007 06:20 PMHi again Andrea. It looks like there are some built-in blockades to your success. However, you also have some strengths, like walking. Do you have a buddy that you can commit to walking with every other day? Once or twice a week is not a bad start at all. As far as food goes, what about changing one thing - no matter how small? Examples: still going out to eat but it has to be Panera or Subway; writing on your calendar on Sunday - thaw one or two meats from the freezer, then cook at least that many times. (I hope this doesn't sound like a lecture -- I just love sharing ideas.) Keep us posted! Andrea Hermitt (5522) 22 Jan 2007 08:36 PMThose are actually good ideas Clarissa... I do try to eat at Subway... but my favorite Chinese restaurant is my downfall. I am learning to cook Chinese at home though. My favorite idea of yours is moving meats to the refrigerator on Sunday. That could make a huge difference in my week. Julie Gentry (5915) 22 Jan 2007 09:25 PMThe every other day diet would never work for me because I'd eat a dozen chocolate bars, half gallon of Rocky Road ice cream, and a whole can of chocolate frosting on the days off! I'm using FitDay.com (free) and entering in every single thing I eat. It's been kind of interesting to see what I've been chowing down in black and white :-(. Confessing...er, posting on the Diary of an Overweight Mom thread has been helpful, too. At least you HAVE a waist to look for! I've never had one to speak of. Discuss this article
