Just Dance 3 Review

Sometimes it is just a little difficult to get the motivation to exercise. Faithful with walking and running in the other three seasons, getting out in the dark and the cold takes some extra resolve that isn’t always there. The warm cinnamon rolls and a cup of coffee always seem much more appealing than donning layers to head out to the park in 25 degrees. Still, all of those Christmas cookies can wreck havoc. With four other people in the house who either need exercise or at least an outlet for their energy, we decided to try Just Dance 3 … Continue reading

Burning Calories with Dancing

So apparently I am behind on the times. I recently blogged about how Zumba (the latest dance fitness craze) is finally coming to the video game world. In February, 2012, “Zumba Fitness Rush” is coming to Xbox 360. However, I should have done my homework. Apparently Zumba has already hit the video game world. In fact, I was complaining that nothing was available for my particular video game system, Nintendo Wii. But apparently last year “Zumba Fitness” had already been available for not only the Wii but Xbox 360 and PS3. Well I might be a bit behind on the … Continue reading

Just Dance 2

I love video games. I didn’t have a game system when I was little and bought the original Nintendo when I was 19. My favorites when I was growing up were Q-Bert, Centipede, and Ms Pac-Man. I played Mario Bros. and Castlevania in high school. The games were fun, but I was never very good at them. I did better with the Atari games because they didn’t require as much skill as the Nintendo ones. I’ve owned every Nintendo GameBoy except the latest 3-D one. I really enjoy the games where you have to find hidden items. I seem to … Continue reading

Dance Fitness – Wanna Dance?

So You Think You Can Dance is back on television and like last year, my daughter and I are totally hooked. This Thursday they will launch the actual contest. Whenever I watch the show, I’m reminded of just how physical is dancing (not that I needed the reminder), but with the show back on, it’s a good time to remind others as well. If you’re interested in switching up your fitness routine this summer, consider dancing as a way to invigorate your workout while also toning your body, burning extra calories and just overall feeling great. Think dancing can’t burn … Continue reading

52 Fitness Changes – Part 4

Continuing on with the blog series, “52 Fitness Changes,” we are going to tackle fitness changes for weeks 31 through 49. By this time we have made some significant changes that will help our overall health. Remember that fitness is more than just exercise; it is changing the way you eat. It is not dieting; it is creating a new lifestyle. Week 31 – don’t skip meals (helps to avoid you becoming too hungry and the risk of overeating) Week 32 – implement circuit training into your workout routine Week 33 – switch to a whole grain diet (with your … Continue reading

Losing the Pregnancy Weight Part III

Burning calories is some what intangible. I really have no idea how many calories I am burning each day by breast feeding my daughter. I would like to give credit to a healthier diet and a commitment to long term exercise for my seemingly quicker come back from having my daughter. Having these habits in the beginning really do make a difference. At almost five weeks post-partum I have not actively worked at loosing the excess weight for very long. My efforts have just begun and I am determined to get closer to my pre-pre pregnancy weight (what I weighted … Continue reading

The Benefits of Keeping Up or Starting Up a Fitness Routine in the Fall

We are in the midst of the fall season and so it seems to be a good reason to remind you of the benefits of keeping up or starting a fitness routine. The first benefit is that you can enjoy the beautiful scenery surrounding you, such as the changing leaves, while you venture out on a walk or run. I am always amazed at some of the vibrant colors that can be found in the leaves during this time. And I have to admit that I enjoy the sound of crunching beneath my feet. But don’t just relegate your walk … Continue reading

Zumba Is Coming to the Video Game World

I keep hearing about the latest fitness craze, Zumba. In fact, I have a few Facebook friends who will post status updates about how much fun they had in their Zumba class. One status yesterday read, “My Zumba class got canceled,” followed with a sad face. If you’re wondering what Zumba is, it is a dance fitness program with some Latin flair. If that doesn’t sound like fun in itself, then I don’t know what more you want. But I’m always up for a little funk. And since it is dance fitness, it burns a lot of calories. Zumba classes … Continue reading

Turning Cleaning into Exercise

Yesterday I decided to do some “fall cleaning.” Yes, I like to be different. Instead of deep cleaning my home in the spring (when I would much rather be outside), I do it in the fall. It helps prepare my home for the upcoming holidays and I like it to be really clean when I am going to be spending so much more time indoors. I only tackled my living room yesterday but it took me a good 3 hours. There was a lot of scrubbing (I have hardwood floors), wiping down walls, dusting and wrestling with these new sofa/loveseat … Continue reading
