Fourth of July Pet Safety

On Friday one of the DJ’s for my local radio station mentioned upcoming Fourth of July celebrations, and she warned dog owners about fireworks. She said that she sees more fliers go up for missing dogs on July 5 than just about any other day of the year, all because of the fireworks noise. It’s something that never occurred to me, but it makes a lot of sense. Depending on where you live and how loud noise from fireworks might be in your yard, Independence Day, while fun for us humans, could prove frightening for our pets. If you keep … Continue reading

Twelve Weeks Post Partum

I have reached another one of the post partum milestones. At twelve weeks post partum I have mixed feeling about my progress in the last six weeks. While change has definitely taken place, other aspects of my post pregnancy fitness seem stuck. Compared to my first post partum experience, I am leaps and bounds ahead the second time around, but in terms of my own self imposed goals, I am way behind. I am continuing to exercise at least five times a week. If I am especially motivated, I will get in a workout or two over the weekend as … Continue reading

The Pre Pregnancy Jeans

There is a lot of anticipation for post partum women to get back into their pre pregnancy jeans. It seems to be an ever present goal one that marks the successful manipulation of the post pregnant body back to what is considered normal. To an even greater extent, a woman’s pre pregnancy jeans fitting again after giving birth is the litmus test that the woman has officially bounced back. This has been my position from the very beginning of my first pregnancy. I thought that if my pre pregnancy jeans fit again after my baby was born, then I would … Continue reading

What You Can Find in the email From Atkins

The Atkins website has tons of helpful information, and useful tools, that are easily accessible. If you want to keep track of your carbs and weight loss through their website, you have to sign up. When you do that, you can choose to let Atkins send you some email. Ever wonder what those emails are like? In an earlier blog, I talked about the Atkins survey. This survey was something I found out about because there was a link to it in one of the emails that Atkins sent to me. To be honest, I didn’t immediately rush over to … Continue reading

Tired

Some days are hard. Some weeks are exhausting. The other day I had to take one child to baseball, one to volleyball, get several articles done, answer fifty emails, update my company’s social media sites, update my company’s blog, clean my house, do the laundry, make dinner, chase after a little one, plan my homeschool year, get a new business plan together and stay in control. I then stayed up to 4 am getting as much done as possible. I had to be up by 8 am at the latest. I felt pretty good which surprised me. So, like a … Continue reading

Making Small, Achievable Goals

Have you ever noticed there seems to be more people running or walking in your neighborhood in the beginning of the year? This is probably because every January many people make New Year’s resolutions, often about their eating and exercise habits. Although I do this too, I am a fan of something even better. I like to call it ‘making small, ACHIEVABLE goals’. Let me elaborate. In January I could say, “I want to lose 20 lbs this year”. If that is what you’re thinking, then you might be setting yourself up for disappointment. Every time you go on the … Continue reading

Book Review: From Fat to Fit

From Fat to Fit: Turn yourself into a weapon of Mass Reduction By: Carole Carson Book rating: 5 out of 5 carrots I know many of you read my post yesterday where I did not full endorse Carole Carson’s tip about only eating what you can put on a fork during the holidays. Yes, I am skeptical. I did agree that mindless holiday munching would pack on pounds yet there are enough forkfuls of food out there to gain the same amount of weight. That is simply my opinion. That nugget of advice may just save many of you from … Continue reading

A Review of Wii Fit Plus

I am so excited about sharing this review. Last week I wrote in my blog, Fitness and Video Games, how the American Red Cross was endorsing two Nintendo Wii games, Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus. I mentioned that I had ordered Wii Fit Plus after seeing a good friend of mine lose weight on it. Well I am happy to report what I think of Wii Fit Plus. From the moment I set everything up. Well okay, I take that back, from the moment my 11-year old helped me set everything up I was completely sold on this … Continue reading

Part One: Interview with Neil Tejwani, Past Contestant on “Biggest Loser”

Last week I enjoyed a wonderful and inspiring conversation with Neil Tejwani from season four of “Biggest Loser.” I am very excited about sharing his story as I know it will encourage and motivate others. Neil’s journey to the “Biggest Loser” began in his high school years when a freak injury propelled him to begin overeating. By the time he was 19 or 20 years old, he was up to about 400 pounds. A couple of years later, during a routine doctor appointment, he discovered that he had hit 460 pounds. His doctor informed him that he had high blood … Continue reading

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of Weight Loss

This has been an interesting week for me with a few different ups and downs. Feel free to play some mood music from your favorite western movie, in the background as you read this. “Doodeedeedoo Wah, wah wah.” The Good I had a particularly great exercise day on Saturday. With no where pressing that we needed to be, I was able to walk and run for a longer time period, proving to myself that I could do it. I was also able to relax and not be so stressed about getting back on time in the morning to shuffle my … Continue reading
