The Importance of Support During Weight Loss

Gaining weight is easy. It happens fast and with little or no effort at all. If only losing weight was just as easy. Losing weight can be difficult, slow and requires effort. The task is daunting with many giving up before they lose their first pound. No wants to feel deprived and no one has time to keep on a diet with everything else going on in their lives. People are also notoriously poor at holding themselves accountable to tasks they do not enjoy or have a hard time fitting into their lives. The solution is having someone else hold … Continue reading

Coming Clean…

I have been thin. I have been a diet success. I am now overweight again. I have allowed a breach in my mental attitude, too many allowances to cheat on a diet, and a packed schedule to keep me in check with my weight. Some people are naturally thin and have a high metabolism. My husband is one of those people. He has hardly gained a pound in 12 years of marriage. I have gained in total 40 pounds in 12 years. I wish I could sit here and tell you that my weight gain does not affect me physically, … Continue reading

By definition, I am following a diet.

Not only am I a diet struggler extraordinaire, I am a homeschooling mom. As such, I write unit studies and have my children engage in vocabulary exercises and teach dictionary skills. While my kids were looking up several words and their origins, I decided to look up diet. I thought it would be a fun exercise and maybe a bit eye opening as any connotation I have of the word is in a negative light. So, I looked up DIET in Webster’s online dictionary and this was the result. Definition of DIET 1 a : food and drink regularly provided … Continue reading

Is Apple Pie a Health Food?

Yesterday my family went to the apple orchard. We go up to the apple orchard every year. I find it to be one of my favorite fall places to visit. The colors of the trees are beautiful the smell of the apples on the trees is so tempting. Letting the kids run around and pick apples, pose by pumpkins and measure sunflowers is just part of the fun we have spending the afternoon at the orchard. After all the running around we stop by the store for cider slush. This is a great treat since there is no additional sugar … Continue reading

Lose 100 pounds in 3 hours! Sometimes it’s too good to be true.

When we read that we can make a million dollars on the internet working from home it raises a red flag. We have all heard the old adage that if it’s too good to be true it probably is, right? I’d say that is true about 9 out of 10 times if not 10 out of 10 times. No, I am not a pessimist and do have faith in miracles but I also know that where a dollar can be made a scam is brewing. When emotion is involved and the desire to quickly fix a situation one is more … Continue reading

Who have I become?

Last I looked I was a twenty something skinny gal on her way to her next class in college. The other day I looked in the mirror and many years have passed since then. Many years filled with wonderful things like marriage and kids. Many years also filled with things I could have lived without like not paying attention to me and losing site of who I am. I was left asking myself who I have become while gazing into the mirror. Am I the same person I was years ago? Should I be? Where am I going? Whose clothes … Continue reading

There’s a monster in my closet!

I know this may sound strange but I am fearful of what is in my closet. I try never to open the door. I just know there is a monster in my closet. It is just waiting for me to open the door so it can taunt me and mock me. This nightmarish monster promises to destroy my self esteem. It sits in wait while I try to find any way not to open the door. I claim victory while my hand is on the door handle but once the door is opened it is the monster that claims the … Continue reading

Will You be Mistaken for Santa this Christmas?

Believe it or not Christmas is 92 days away! That is three months and 2 days to fit into that Christmas dress you have been dying to wear. Will you do it? I know this year I do not want to worry I’ll be mistaken for Mrs. Claus if I decide to wear red. This could be Christmas number 5 that I wanted to wear this one skirt in particular but can’t get my sugar plum bottom into it. I keep telling myself that I have an excuse seeing as how I have a knee injury that requires me to … Continue reading

Enough to Make a Whale Go Back to her Aquarium

Well, I went on a run this morning. A donut run! Pick your jaw up off the floor, we all make mistakes. Besides, my husband is working and my kids asked if we could get donuts this morning. Normally I would never entertain such a request but they got me at a weak moment. So, I get in my car and go on a donut run. I get a pretty sprinkle topped donut, a cinnamon roll, a glazed and a chocolate glazed for the kids. Me? I got a mega deluxe cream filled donut with a huge cup of coffee. … Continue reading
