Getting Desperate? There's Always Ear Staplingby Lisa P | More from this Blogger 04 Mar 2008 06:18 AM For $45-$60 you can have a surgical staple put in each ear and supposedly lose three to five pounds per week for about two to three months. (Practitioners say the effect of the initial stapling wears off in two to three months.) The theory behind ear stapling is that the staple acts in an acupuncture/acupressure manner on the part of your ear that affects cravings for sweets. The cool news is that it also supposedly affects one's craving for nicotine as well. So, if you're a smoker who is trying to lose weight too, it might be a good option. It may also help to relieve stress, get a good night's sleep and also relieve migraines. It sounds like a miracle cure for most of us but there are no guarantees. Apparently the people who do this procedure, which takes about as long as piercing your ears, are doing a brisk business. There are even businesses that are offering free stapling if you host an ear stapling party for six or more people in your home. Ahh...it used to be Tupperware, Avon and the Pampered Chef. Now it is ear stapling parties! Of course, the medical community - those same people who tell us to eat lots of carbohydrates - are none too keen on this particular weight loss method. They stress the possibility of infection but that seems rather far fetched to me considering you aren't doing this is your girlfriend's garage with her husband's staple gun and an ice cube. All joking aside, people who have this done do need to clean their staples twice a day just like they would with any other piercing. In reference to my comment about the staple gun and ice cube, please see a professional and don't try to do this one at home! Related Blogs:
