Figure: For the Plus-Size Woman

I wanted to be a model when I was a teenager, but the folks at the modeling school said that I was average. It didn't mean that I couldn't model. They meant that I didn't have legs up to my ears and I wasn't very thin. Between you and me, I still want to model. Once, I was in a fashion show, modeling plus-size clothes, and I felt fabulous. At the end, I had the option to buy the things that I wore, at a discount. Well, it wasn't free...but a deal is a deal.

You're probably wondering what this has to do with weight loss. I'll tell you. This is my body, for now. I want tips on how to accentuate my good points. So, why aren't there more fashion magazines for the plus-size person? There are enough weight loss pills, books, and gadgets. When I'm checking out at the supermarket, I'm surrounded by a dozen or more magazines with unnaturally thin women on the cover. At times, it's overwhelming (or it was).

I found a magazine that addresses the issues of plus-size women: lifestyle, exercise, health tips, and personal advice. In addition, it showcases budget friendly clothing, and even includes discount coupons for clothing stores, like: Fashion Bug, Lane Bryant, and Catherines Plus Sizes. Who wouldn't want to save a few dollars? Buying clothes can get really expensive when you're losing weight.

They also sponsor a cruise where plus-size women can come together and have a good time. You should see the pictures of women of all shapes and sizes, smiling, and having fun. In one issue I read, there was a picture of nearly a dozen women power walking around the deck. Talk about support and motivation. I'm sorry I couldn't be there. If you want a copy of your own, Figure can be found at the three clothing stores I mentioned, certain supermarkets, Wal-mart, Books-A-Million, Barnes and Noble, and by subscription.
