Halloween-Themed Weight Loss Plan for Brave Parents

Have you seen Hershey’s newest Halloween treat? The Screme Egg is a twist on the chocolate giant’s popular Easter sweet, the Cadbury Creme Egg. The shape is the same, as is the egg’s white filling, but the Halloween version features a green yolk-like center instead of yellow. If that doesn’t make you scream, perhaps the nutritional value will. A single Screme Egg contains 150 calories and five grams of fat. While that may not seem like a frightening amount, consider that the average adult can fit roughly four of the eggs in his or her mouth at one time. Add … Continue reading

My husband says that his grandmother makes the best pies. Upon asking her for a recipe she replied that she uses Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk. Not only did she emphasize that it must be Eagle Brand she wrote “Eagle Brand” out on her recipe cards. Eagle Brand is her secret ingredient. She is in good company using sweetened condensed milk as her secret ingredient. According to research conducted by Kelton Research 95 percent polled say a secret ingredient is key and a third say their secret ingredient is sweetened condensed milk. In this spirit Eagle Brand has launched the … Continue reading

Temporary and Permanent Changes

I experienced many changes with my first pregnancy. Some of these changes were permanent while others were only temporary. Some of these changes were good while others where entirely unwanted. Change is inevitable and a necessary part of life. I experienced more changes in that 9 month period than I did in my entire life. Temporary Changes: I experienced chronic fatigue and nausea accompanied by frequent vomiting from week 5 through week 15 of my first pregnancy. I also gained weight steadily in my 2nd and 3rd trimesters. With a sustained diet and exercise, I was able to lose most … Continue reading

Yes the words “Cheesecake” and “Low Fat” can be used together: Part 2

Here is a recipe from Paula Dean from the Food Network. I am normally not one to find recipes from the Food Network since most seem difficult, expensive or require ingredients I need to search the globe to buy. However, this recipe for Joanne’s Almost Fat-free Lemon Cheesecake , is fairly easy to make and requires only a simple trip to your local grocer for ingredients. Ingredients Crust: Cooking spray 1 3/4 cups fat-free vanilla wafer cookie crumbs, or any fat-free cookie crumbs of your choice 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted Filling: 3 (8-ounce) packages fat-free cream cheese 1 cup … Continue reading

Weight Loss: My Own Personal Philosophy

In my last weight loss blog, I found myself 46, a good 30 pounds overweight, with high cholesterol and teetering on the borderline of being diabetic. My problem is I know what to do, it is just implementing it, but then I am sure some of you have the same problem. I know everyone has different opinions about weigh loss, but I thought I would share with you my own personal philosophy. Mind you, some of you may disagree with my opinion, so just remember, this is just the way I feel about weight loss. Number one, fad diets and … Continue reading

Fad Diets, Crash Diets: Take One (The Egg and Orange Diet)

I am going to get into a little series here in my blog regarding fad diets and crash diets. Although not recommended by physicians, health nuts, nutritionists, etc., some people say that they are good in a pinch for a quick weight loss emergency like going to a party on Saturday and you noticed that the cheesecake you ate the other day has settled in your hip area. Your dilemma: Your dress will not climb past your suddenly rounded derriere. You really do not feel that you have a choice because if you do not lose it your night will … Continue reading

Pinworms and Your Child

Pinworms are those nasty little white worms that infest their slimy, tiny bodies into the intestines. I know, not a pleasant topic, but very real especially in children. Do not be surprised if you find that your child has a case of pinworms as 10 to 40 per cent of children get them. The good thing is that they are easily treatable. The first thing that will give you an inkling that your child has pinworms is if you notice them scratching their bottom. This also comes with difficulty sleeping or restless sleeping and wiggling around in their bed a … Continue reading
