Lose 5 Pounds with Yoplait!

I only eat one kind of brand of yogurt. I walk through the dairy aisle of my store and pass up half a dozen brands to get to my favorite. A few times a good sale caught my wandering eye and I cheated on my favorite brand with another. Each time I was disappointed and begged forgiveness to the only yogurt for me. All other yogurts are runny, have boring flavors or have that distinct yogurty taste I dislike. Are you suggesting that I really don’t like yogurt? I’ve considered that myself many times. Yet, my Yoplait never disappoints in … Continue reading

Drop 5lbs.: The Small Changes, Big Results Die By: Heather K. Jones, RD Book Summary as per Amazon.com: Sometimes it’s the simple choices-like switching diet soda for regular; selecting a less-caloric sandwich at the fast food joint; stopping at just one dip into the candy bowl; filling up on salad rather than bread before your main course; or taking the kids for a bike ride instead of hanging out in front of the TV-that make the pounds melt away almost effortlessly. Whether you’re a junk food junkie, an emotional eater, or even a mindless muncher, Good Housekeeping Drop 5 Pounds … Continue reading

Just a Few Pounds. . .

That’s what happens isn’t it? We gain a few pounds here and a few pounds there and we’re no longer in the realm of healthy. A few pounds here and there isn’t that bad. Why? Because it’s only a couple. No one bats an eye lash when you go from 135 to 137. Then maybe the next year you go from 137 to 139. . .and well, you see the pattern. And just how do you gain a couple of pounds here and there? By slowly changing your habits. Lots of college freshman gain the “freshman 15” because no one … Continue reading

Weeding Away the Pounds

It’s summer here, I know officially that summer hasn’t started yet, but it definitely feels like summer is here with soaring temperatures, hot sun and steamy air. We’ve been very fortunate this spring because we’ve had lots and lots of rain (compared to last year when we had almost no rain and our lake dropped to 16 feet below the normal water level). So what do hot sun, warm temperatures and lots of rain give you? If you answered weeds, then go to the front of the class! Weeds, Weeds, Weeds I spend nearly an hour every other day pulling … Continue reading

Thinking Away the Pounds: A Study of 84 Housekeepers

According to a study conducted by Harvard University psychologist Ellen Langer and her student Alia Crum, perceiving you’re getting enough exercise may help you to lose weight. The results of the study show that it is possible to think your way to a healthier body while you get those daily chores done. Eighty-four housekeepers from seven Boston hotels participated in Langer’s study. The women were between the ages of 18-55 years old. They were divided into two groups. Women from four of the hotels were told they were getting adequate exercise by performing their daily work. The women in the … Continue reading

Looking For My Waist : Guest Blogger Introduction

Hello, my name is Andrea and I am looking for my waist. Have you seen it? I am a homeschool blogger for families.com and will be doing some guest blogging in weight loss. I am 38 ½ years old, and hope to drop 100 pounds by the time I turn 40. I also hope to walk a marathon on or near my 40th birthday as well. I want to thank Cathy, the senior blogger in weight loss, for so being gracious in giving me free reign to “reveal my truths”. She says that writing in this blog will offer me … Continue reading

The Biggest Loser – 138 pounds???

I wasn’t surprised this week when the Biggest Loser participants lost a lot of weight. Even though in normal circumstances, a weight loss as big as 7 pounds after week three would be considered a miracle, these folks are living and breathing their fitness plan. But still, I wasn’t prepared to see the Blue team members lose as much as they did. After all, two of them couldn’t train with Bob all week, and the other two had to eat out all week! To have them still lose an average of 13 pounds each was astounding. It showed their dedication, … Continue reading

Diary of an Overweight Mom: Day 5—WHAT Was I Thinking???

Morning Weight: 180.6 Total Weight Loss: 4.6 pounds WHAT was I thinking? Why on earth would I think I could bake shortbread while on the first week of my new “diet?” But I did. My husband loves shortbread and it’s super easy to make. So against my better judgment today, when I should’ve been walking on the treadmill or drinking some vitamin-filled shake, I was working butter into flour with my hands. I’d like to tell you I made the shortbread then walked away. But if you’ve ever smelled shortbread baking in the oven, you can understand why that’s nearly … Continue reading
