Momma’s on a Diet: McDonalds? Count me In!

Yes, I know I’m on a diet. By tradition I’m supposed to eat crispbread, low fat cottage cheese, lettuce leaves and a side helping of tomatoes topped with dried rosemary to indicate that food can still have taste whilst being low in calories. But you see, the thing is, I’m not big on tradition – well not as far as diets go. They’ve never really worked for me. Dr Phil McGraw always says “How’s that working for you?” as an indicator as to whether you are doing something the right way or not. Well the truth is, the traditional way … Continue reading

Carbohydrate Blockers Do Work

I am a carboholic. I have a major problem with starchy carbohydrates. The problem is that I love them. They are comfort food. Cookies, bagels, homemade bread, if it starts with flour then I love it. The problem for me is twofold: 1. These sorts of things do terrible things to my blood sugar. (Raising it and then dropping it to unheard of lows to the point where I need to take a nap.) 2. Whenever I eat starchy carbohydrates I retain lots of extra water so that my body can process and digest them. (A single bagel can show … Continue reading

Body Clutter — Marla Cilley and LeeAnn Ely

Why am I fat? That’s a question many Americans, myself included, ask ourselves several times a week, if not several times a day. Sometimes the answer is simple: I’m fat because I’m addicted to cheeseburgers and I don’t exercise. Sometimes the answer is more complex: I have emotional issues that I haven’t overcome. I’ve read many books on the theories behind weight loss. Some want you to eat all carbs, others say no carbs. Some want you to drink a glass of lemon water with every meal. Some say you should color coordinate your food. They all have their points … Continue reading

Morning Weight: 181.0 Success! I’m so excited to have lost weight without starving myself or dining on only meat and eggs! It’s tough though. When you decide to add carbohydrates back into your diet, you have to be careful. It’s easy to go way overboard quickly, gobbling up every bread-type product in site. Tonight we went to a bonfire barbecue at the beach. It was a ton of fun, but I was a bit nervous before we left. I knew I’d have to record my weight in the morning and, although I do expect my weight loss to stall in … Continue reading

Morning Weight: 182.4 Well, gloriously, the scale has consistently gone down the past few days. However, now I’ve decided for a number of reasons to NOT do a low-carb diet today.
