Diary of an Overweight MOM-Day 1: Ready or Not, Here I Come!by Catherine Ipcizade | More from this Blogger 06 Sep 2006 08:06 PM Morning Weight: 185.2 I cannot believe I just said that out loud. So you'll be happy to know (or at least I was) that I survived the dreaded DAY ONE. It's often the hardest for me, especially when I'm trying to go low carb. I wake in the morning and see a banana on the counter and it suddenly becomes as tempting as a piece of cake. A mere slice of bread nearly makes me drool with want and Cheeze-its...let's just say I have to hide them far, far away. I won't lie to you, although it's tempting. I did "blow" it a bit at dinnertime. But other than that, I feel good about my dieting day. Here's what I ate-the good, the bad, and the "what the heck was I thinking." Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs, small handful of raspberries Lunch: Chicken Salad (chicken cooked with taco seasoning-no, the seasoning packet isn't no-carb, but a girl's gotta have some flavor! The salad had lettuce, tomato, 2 TB cheese and salsa for dressing). Snack: 2 ham and provolone cheese roll-ups Dinner: McDonalds - Now before you go getting all, "what were you thinking?" on me, let me tell you that I had the Bacon Ranch Salad, which is low-carb allowed. I didn't even have their dressing; I used my own from home. HOWEVER, and this is where I subtly blew it-my husband bought me a cheeseburger, "just in case." Dear sabotaging man, what was he thinking!? Of course I ate it. I tried to resist it, really I did. But after awhile, as I watched it sitting there lonely on the counter, my habitual eating got the best of me and I ate it on the spot. My overall impressions of the day? Not bad for a first day. Sure, it could've been better. I could've exercised (I didn't). I could've skipped the burger (again, I didn't). But I didn't eat a Big Mac. I didn't eat fries. I didn't dive into my kids' crackers at 4pm like I usually do, and I didn't end up raiding the refrigerator in a fit of carbohydrate-denied lunacy. Yes, I'll step on the scale tomorrow and yes; I'll try to get some exercise in. But today-today was rough. I had a ton of writing to get done. And my son, who just started kindergarten last week, had to come home early today because another kid kicked him in the face. And let me tell you, seeing my little boy with a huge knot on his forehead and knowing he had a bloody nose at school and that I wasn't there to help him, would usually drive me to a truckload of chocolate. But not today. Today I was strong. Today I persevered. Today...I had a Diet Coke instead. How was your first day? Haven't started yet? Well get going, girlfriend! There's no day like today. Let's do this together! And hey, you don't even have to record your weight for thousands of people to see-unless you want to of course. But most of all you must see yourself the way you want to look .. I am a 37 year old mother that lost 20lbs in 6 weeks , I plan to lose about 20 more in the next two months .... YOU CAN AND WILL LOSE THE WEIGHT!!!!!!!! Jody Moreen (3274) 07 Sep 2006 05:54 AMDay one for me yesterday as well, Catherine and a good start too! Carbs are my downfall so spent more time buying more fruits/vegetables. Skipped having bread and rolls with supper. We had a casserole for dinner but also a huge bowl of strawberries and a dish with fresh broccoli and carrots with low fat ranch dip. I felt good watching my family eat healthy as well. I got off the couch and walked the dog after supper also and BOY was she happy! I slept better too! I also parked my car further away at anywhere I stopped yesterday to walk more! Jody Valorie Delp (49340) 07 Sep 2006 06:23 AMYeah for you Catherine. Since I'm still nursing twins I have to try a little different approach. (I need those carbs--literally). My approach: change one or two bad habits a week. This week I have 3 goals: drink more water, no chips, crackers or the like, and at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies. Yesterday I was horribly sick so I neither broke nor met any of my goals. Not too bad! Lisa P (24013) 07 Sep 2006 07:20 AMGood work, Catherine! I'm still in there too! I started out about a week-and-a-half ago with 20 pounds to go to get to my pre-Teddy weight (Mind you I'd gained 70 pounds during the pregnancy). Well, I'm happy to report that I'm staying strong, doing aerobic work, lifting weights and am now only 10 pounds away from my goal (with 4 weeks to my deadline). Of course, I'm feeling a little empowered now and thinking I might just make this an interim goal and push further. :-) One step at a time. Catherine Ipcizade (5617) 07 Sep 2006 09:05 AMWow! I'm so excited to see other people doing this with me! Adoptionblessings, way to go! Your thinking is right on the mark. If you restrict yourself completely, you set yourself up to fail. The way you've aligned your goals, you'll succeed. Keep going and good luck! Keep me posted! Hi Valorie! Great goals! Drinking more water and eating 5 servings of fruits and veggies is a huge goal of mine as well. When we're busy it's so easy NOT to do those things. I'm sorry you were sick yesterday. Feel better and good luck! Hi Lisa! Woohoo! You go girl! I'm proud of your drive to exercise--it makes such a difference. I told my husband that if I'd just exercise, the rest would fall into line so much easier. Now I'm going to go pull out my Walk Away The Pounds video. Thanks for the inspiration. You can do it! Good luck! Oh, I almost forgot, are you still doing that Maple syrup thing? Lisa P (24013) 08 Sep 2006 06:31 AMYes, I'm still doing it - but without the Maple Syrup and Cayenne. It made me sick. I'm 7 pounds from my goal now and this cleansing of my body seems to be clearing my mind as well. When I ease back into eating, I'll be starting slow with whey protein drinks and working into clean eating (only foods that nourish) and I'll be manipulating my carbs quite a bit as that is my big trigger. I actually did a blog on fasting and using the time on a fast to get your head straight about what you need to do with your nutrition plan. (I actually do practice what I preach!) It works! Catherine Ipcizade (5617) 09 Sep 2006 01:18 PMWow! I give you credit for the sheer stamina it takes to fast. I think I'd go ape crazy if I missed just one day of eating...yeeks! Good luck!
