Dad's Losing It: On The Road

I am traveling on business today. I am in Memphis to visit my client and launch a new service. The time away from home gives me time to catch up on sleep and offers the chance to eat a multi-course upscale dinner, on the company's dime (which always tastes good!)

Kelly Drive

Before I left town, my family of four spent Sunday afternoon and early evening in Philadelphia, walking for nearly three hours along Kelly Drive. This picturesque stretch of waterfront is named for famous former resident Grace Kelly and takes visitors along The Art Museum, Waterworks complex and historic Boathouse row. There are miles of paved paths on either side of the Schuylkill River ideal for walking, jogging, biking, or rollerblading and hundreds of shady nooks, benches and picnic tables inviting you to take a load off and have a bite to eat (providing you packed something, as food options are few and far between). The afternoon outside provided a wealth of physical activity for my gang and I. After our time on the river, we went cross-town for a slice of the best pizza in the city, Lorenzo's and Sons on South St. and to AKA Music, Philadelphia's premier independent destination for music. Those are two spots I am personally required to hit on each and every visit to my fair city.

The Waterworks

Notice I have not discussed eating too much to this point? That is no accident. I am embarrassed to inform you that my terrible eating has not ceased, not even close. The only saving grace was dinner on Sunday night, after our day downtown. I stopped at Trader Joe's for ingredients to make Chicken Saltimbocca, my favorite meal to cook and consume. Pounded out chicken breast stuffed with prosuittico ham, fontina cheese and fresh sage and then sautéed in olive oil. Simply marvelous. I complimented our entrees with a salad of romaine hearts and lite-country French dressing, a baked potato and peas. It was the first complete meal I made from scratch in weeks. So much for that lofty idea that being home with baby would actually increase my desire and ability to prepare dinners!
