Becoming a Healthier Wife

When I made my marital vows to my husband, putting on weight and feeling too tired for housework or intimacy was not a part of them! I was supposed to be his beautiful bride, someone he would want to love, honor and cherish for life. I’ve been wonderfully blessed with a husband who has never made mention of me being overweight in a negative way. He has truly loved me not showing shame with me, and this is a huge reason why I believe he deserves to have me be a healthier and more beautiful wife. I wasn’t prepared for … Continue reading

Becoming a Healthier Mom

My children mean the world to me and there is nothing like the joy of being able to join in their world of play. We wrestle on the floor, giggle, play silly word games, build train tracks, Lego skyscrapers, play airplane where I spin them around by their arms until we’re both dizzy… But getting tired too quickly due to being overweight and hearing my boys tell me, “Mommy, still play” is grieving. Moms even in the healthiest condition often don’t have the energy of three or five year old boys, but they may be able to play chase or … Continue reading

Books About the Genealogy of the First Ladies

This is an election year, and we have been hearing a lot of news that talks about the genealogy of various candidates and political figures. What we don’t hear as much about is the family tree, or genealogy, of the women who are, or were, a First Lady. There are plenty of books out, right now, that will tell you more about the lives of these important women. Michelle Obama is the current First Lady. You probably have heard about her efforts to get children to eat healthier, and to engage in more frequent physical activity. Genealogists might be interested … Continue reading

Does my writing make me look fat?

It seems lately, I have been pointed in the direction of health, well being, and weight loss. In the midst of being asked to review two fitness items, a spot to write for the Weight Loss blog became available. Currently, I write for the Home Schooling blog here on Families.com. I am very excited to get my fingers working out on the keyboard as your Weight Loss blogger as well. Weight loss is a topic that I have become all too familiar with through my life. From a quick stint with an eating disorder, to getting in great shape, to … Continue reading

21 Things I’ve Learned about My Christian Walk at the Gym

If you go to a gym, it might be fun to seek out a correlation of your faith and your workout. The following are some things I’ve come up with: 1. Doing the right thing might take some sacrifice but is worth it at the end of the day. 2. My Christian walk is like being on a moving treadmill; when I’m not walking forward, I’m back-sliding. 3. I don’t make it very far if I haven’t eaten a good meal or drank enough water. 4. Just when I don’t think I can take another step, I learn that I … Continue reading

Feel Great Not Fat

This really happened. My mother and I were getting ready for a day trip. I walked out of her bathroom wearing a polo top, jeans, and boots. My hair was pulled back and my face was naked, except for eyeliner and mascara. She stopped in the hall, looked me up and down, frowned, then asked, “Are you finished?” I looked myself over. I thought I was pulled together. Hey, I matched. She shook her head when I told her that we weren’t going anyplace special. She said, as she walked away, “But, you need to look like we’re going somewhere.” … Continue reading
