Akavar 20/50: Day 3 (-1lb)

It isn't that big a deal.

Yes, so I lost a pound. I lost the same pound the day before yesterday.

I drank more water yesterday. I got a little more sleep last night (7 hours instead of 5.5 or 6). I was really sore from my workouts earliuer in the week so I chose to sleep in a little longer and skip the workout. While there are times when you just can't make time to wexercise, there are also times when you just need to make time for sleep. I'm lucky if I get 6 hours of sleep every night. I know enough about my body to understand that is a major cause of my inability to lose weight. (OK, so the whoopie pies don't help but I don't eat them every day!)

One of the problems many mothers have with weight loss is that we try to do everything and be everything to everyone except ourselves. We're so busy taking care of our families that we simply forget to take care of ourselves.

We get very little sleep at night due to sick children, babies needing feedings or just little ones having bad dreams. My 4-month-old sleeps all night but my 3.5-year-old still has yet to through the night!

We're so busy trying to prepare healthy meals for the family that we often forget to eat healthy ourselves. While I wouldn't dream of letting my son start his day without something fresh from all four food groups, I think nothing of starting my day with just coffee.

We're the ones balancing the budget and feel guilty for joining a gym that may cause $50 per month. We know we need the exercise but we use the money for other things (like paying off bills) and tell ourselves we'll just take a walk after dinner every day. By the time dinner is finished and the kitchen cleaned up, we're simply too exhausted to even think about a walk. Besides, the kids need baths, don't they?

These are all valid reasons for the major battles we face in our efforts to lose weight and get healthy but there is one thing we all seem to forget:

If we don't take care of ourselves and stay in tip-top shape, who will take care of our families when we're gone?

Think about it.

One pound is a big deal! Imagine if it had been the other way, plus one pound instead of the loss. You would have been even more upset. You should be happy with the loss! I'm reading your blogs as often as you post them and enjoying them, so keep up the good work!

Thanks :-) What would really make me happy is a new pound lost though. I'm not into the yo-yo weight loss. If I'm going to keep bopping around the same pound, I'd just as soon not put in all the effort of dieting in the first place.

Thanks for reading!
