How to Set Weight Loss Goals

If you have been frustrated with an inability to lose weight or you feel stuck in a rut, try setting some weight loss goals. Sometimes we go into the whole weight loss journey without a real plan in place. Goals give you something concrete to shoot for. Without them it can feel like you are running a race without a real finish line. Think about how that would feel. If you ran and ran and ran but saw no end in sight it would quickly become very discouraging. However if you have something to strive for it makes the race … Continue reading

Oatmeal Pancakes: A Simple Way To Increase Milk Supply

I’ve written before about how eating oatmeal can boost a breastfeeding mother’s milk supply. Because I plan to breastfeed for a long time and want to keep my milk supply up, I’m always on the lookout for recipes that include oatmeal. The other morning, I was really jonesin’ for some pancakes. As I searched around on the internet for a pancake recipe, I was delighted to find that many recipes included oatmeal. After comparing several recipes and tweaking them to fit personal taste (and the ingredients I happened to have on hand), this is the recipe I came up with: … Continue reading

Steps to Choosing the Right Weight Loss Program for You

If you are trying to choose a weight loss regimen it can be mind boggling. Do you control your portions or your carbs? Do you go non-fat or just certain fats? Supplements? Alli? Or maybe just join a weight loss center? Perhaps you’re even considering something more drastic like surgery? How are you supposed to know which option is best for you? Diary of an Overweight Mom: It’s a Bumpy Ride, But Somebody’s Gotta Take It!

Weight loss isn’t easy. It’s not fun. It’s not instant—well, not the kind that sticks anyhow. I’ve been reading the blogs lately about weight loss journeys, and I must say I’ve found a common theme: The Roller Coaster Theme. Weight is up. Weight is down. Weight is back up again. This happens for millions of people every year. For some people, this roller coaster of the pounds lasts a lifetime. Unfortunately, it is this exact up and down then up again that leads to more heart attacks and strokes than most people know about. Did you know it’s healthier to … Continue reading

A Simple Plan for Weight Loss

While I fine-tune my diet, I’m researching what other people are doing. I look for people who have maintained weight loss for a number of years. After all, they must be doing something right. Sometimes, I come across experts who really explain issues with weight loss in a way that I can understand. Although knowing the science behind their reasoning is helpful, I don’t have the time, patience, or attention span to muddle through a bunch of five dollar words or a gazillion pages of text. Give it to me straight and let me see if I can work with … Continue reading

Diary of an Overweight Mom: Grape Jelly Toast

I’m sick. I’ve been sick nearly all month. Seriously—I finished one round of antibiotics, only to go to Arizona for Thanksgiving and come home sick—again. It’s crazy. Weight loss isn’t easy when you’re sick. This is especially true because carbohydrates are often the easiest food group to digest. Personally, all I want right now is buttered toast with grape jelly. I ate it for breakfast. I ate it last night around 10pm. I ate it yesterday for lunch, too, and will likely eat it for lunch again today. I’ve also eaten crackers and whatever fast food my husband has brought … Continue reading

November Weight Loss Goals

November is just around the corner. The weather is turning crisp. In some areas of the world, it’s already downright cold. This often sends people into “slacking” mode and turns weight loss efforts into mush. To avoid weight loss pitfalls, make goals for yourself and stick with them. What are your weight loss goals? Have you set any yet? If not, now is a good time to think about it. With the holidays approaching, perhaps weight loss aspirations are too much for you. Perhaps you should set a goal to maintain your weight or make a goal of only a … Continue reading
