Post-birth Weight Loss and its Psychological Impact

I read an interesting article recently about new mothers and their struggle to regain their figures after childbirth. Actually, it was more sad than interesting. The article told the story of a 37-year-old woman who had given birth to her second child and immediately started a five-day-a-week gym regime. This woman fairly quickly regained her figure. But alas there still persisted those elusive silvery stretch marks and she thought that things had sagged a little as well, Anyway, the exercising hadn’t given her back a 25-year old body. But why did she think it should? And why does she feel … Continue reading

4 Keys to Weight Loss

Now that I’ve been blogging for awhile in the weight loss category, I’ve read quite a few articles, studies and just plain opinion on losing weight. I qualify it into two categories: the ‘magic bullets’ of weight loss which are really not that magical. And then there’s the other category which makes weight loss slower, but leads to overall health and frankly makes a lot more sense. These four things seem to keep cropping up over and over again, so I thought I would summarize what seem to be the best things to keep in mind while losing weight. Key … Continue reading

Twelve Months Post Partum: An Exercising Journey Part V

Once I had come to the conclusion that the only way to get some semblance of my stomach back, was to, believe it or not, lose more weight.  I thought that surely if I could get back down to the weight I was before pregnancy wreaked havoc on my midsection, that I might see a slimmer, love handleless, figure in the mirror.   Even though the task was clear and seemingly simple, there really is nothing easy about losing the last few stubborn pregnancy pounds…again since I decided to move the finish line once again.  I wish there was a way … Continue reading

Turkey as Diet Food

I know many of us consider turkey an annual binging food that we only see on Thanksgiving so what I am about to say may shock you. Turkey is an excellent diet food. Mind you, I said turkey, not turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and whipped cream. I’m a very busy mother of two boys so finding time to prepare healthy meals for myself between kiddie meals and bottles is practically an impossibility. Like most mothers, if I have nothing available that can be microwaved in less than two minutes and eaten, I usually fall back … Continue reading

Sometimes You Just Can’t Make The Time to Exercise

I always try to be positive about weight loss efforts and, like most people who do exercise, I have the mindset that I need to make time to exercise. I’ve held this mindset for quite some time and really beaten myself up over it. Now I am finally admitting it. Sometimes you just can’t make that time to exercise. If you regularly read this blog, you know that I had a baby four months ago and you may also know that I have a pre-schooler at home as well. My plan was to get back to the gym six weeks … Continue reading

What Can The Mediterranean Diet Do For You?

We keep hearing about the Mediterranean Diet but nobody tell us exactly what it is. We keep hearing about what it can do for those of us with heart disease, diabetes and arthritis and yet, where are the instructions? We’re told the Mediterranean Diet leads to a longer life. What we aren’t told is how to get started on the Mediterranean Diet. In the 1950s, Ancel Keys, a nutritionist, began what was called the Seven Countries which linked the eating patterns of Greece, Italy, Yugoslavia, Finland, Netherlands, Japan and the United States. The study found that those who followed a … Continue reading
